Planning permission in North London

24/01/20

We were delighted to hear that the Secretary of State has granted Planning Approval for the regeneration of North London Business Park to provide 1350 dwellings, some ancillary retail, leisure and offices and a new secondary school.

The Secretary of State recognised the contribution the site will make to housing delivery in Barnet and rejected local concerns over traffic congestion following supporting evidence presented by Ian Awcock on behalf of Comer Homes Group.  Working with Christopher Katkowski QC and Robert Walton QC, the Comer team presented robust evidence and won the Appeal with full costs.

A Planning Application was submitted in late 2015 for which AWP undertook a Transport Assessment and a Flood Risk Assessment as well as co-ordinating the production of an Environmental Statement with a number of co-consultants. AWP covered 5 disciplines within the EIA as well as providing strategic development advice alongside the planning consultant Daniel Watney and architect Plus Architecture.

The site is seen as being a key site for housing delivery in the capital, as demonstrated by the Secretary of State’s decision and it is expected that a rapid start can now be made on construction works for the school.
