Uffculme School - highway access improvements

Uffculme Schoolhad a problem with the narrow lane outside the school causing congestion at the start and end of the school day. Particular problems were experienced by the coaches bringing students from the wider Mid Devon catchment that the school serves with the steep gradients into the school site causing some coaches to ground out on entry.

AWP were instructed as part of the professional team of Grainge Architects and Hills and undertook initial design of a proposed widening solution for consultation with DCC highways.

Having started design work in May 2016 the widening and new site access was open for traffic ready for the school to open on 5th September 2016, on time and on budget.  DCC have subsequently confirmed adoption of the road under a S228 Agreement.  Design to adoption in 6 months.
