Kiteswarms R&D facility

North Devon

This is something a little different.

We were appointed by Kiteswarms to undertake a Flood Risk Assessment to support a planning application for their new R&D test facility located in the high risk flood zone near Braunton in North Devon.

Kiteswarms are a small company with grand ambitions to change the way wind energy is harvested. They are designing and building vertically ascending kites that are interlinked and rise together to a great height where consistent wind conditions are encountered. This allows them to constantly harvest wind energy in abundance, compared to conventional wind turbines. They aim to develop a disruptive technology in the energy market, to make global energy needs green, safe and available for everyone.

Our FRA demonstrated that the proposed development complies with the flood risk compatibility criteria set by the NPPF and we specified flood resilient measures which will increase the level of flood protection to the existing building.

North Devon Council granted planning approval in August 2019 and we are currently helping Kiteswarms discharge planning conditions.
