"AWP were selected from 4 consultants to produce a Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) for our project. Value, not cost, was key in appointing them having discussed our requirements. The FRA report was compiled in good time and furthermore Rob Ward went the extra mile to assist us months after the document was completed to add extra value. Without their input, planning permission would not have been granted."
Working with project architects Clifton Emery Design for a private developer, we prepared a Flood Risk Assessment to help secure planning permission for a block of new seafront apartments in Seaton, East Devon.
The site, and all of the surrounding area, is located in the high risk flood zone. Therefore, as part of our FRA, we assessed the impact of the 1 in 200 year return period wave overtopping the existing coastal flood defence for the 100 year design life of the residential apartments. The predicted impact of climate change along the Devon coast over the next 100 years has sea levels rising by over 1.1m. As a result, many existing flood defences will no longer provide adequate protection.
We were able to demonstrate to the Environment Agency, and ultimately East Devon District Council as the local planning authority, that the development will be safe from flooding throughout its design life and will improve the position from the current scenario.
We look forward to seeing this striking new block of apartments being constructed to Passivhaus certification in this fantastic location. For more information please visit www.seatonbeach.co.uk
