To kick off our celebrations for National Apprenticeship Week 2026, here is a quote from Dan Hart, Partner & Associate Director, who leads our Civil Engineering Apprenticeship Academy;
‘Apprentices have always been and will continue to be a foundation of success for AWP, the business started in 2012 with a team of just seven, we are now a team in excess of 40.
The majority of this growth has come from sustained investment at Apprentice level as part of our Academy programme with Exeter College.
The value and success of this programme can been seen in all we do, from the innovative engineering solutions, use of new technologies and software, to our programme Alumni who now lead teams, deliver projects, and shape our culture.
Investment in staff is just part of the fabric of what we do here at AWP and we are proud to have maintained our ‘Gold’ Investors in People accreditation. Without Apprentices I don’t think we could have achieved this.
The Built Environment industry is in urgent need of workforce growth to meet the demands of the UK’s housing targets and infrastructure delivery demands.
Here at AWP we are committed to growth, innovation, and giving back by investing in the talent of tomorrow!
Having started my own career journey as an Apprentice, it’s incredibly rewarding to continue supporting and celebrating the Apprentices and Alumni who are now a driving force within the business.
My advice to other employers considering using a training scheme for the first time is simple: a continuous stream of new employees at junior level offers a fresh perspective on daily business operations and procedures, which will enhance diversity, innovation, and succession opportunities for your workforce. If there is one thing you do this year, make it hiring an Apprentice!’
