Although located within a short walking distance from local facilities and amenities in Penzance, the transport strategy for the scheme had to overcome the severance effects of the busy A30 which cut across the routes between those facilities and the site. AWP’s active travel solutions for the scheme included the provision of new shared foot/cycleways facilitating walking and cycling movements at the Mount Misery roundabout, as well as a new signalised Toucan crossing at Castle Horneck Lane. Agreement for the latter required detailed analysis of traffic flow movements and road safety audit in order to provide a robust evidence base to justify the installation of a new crossing within the provisions of the design standards given the context of this section of the A30.
As with other schemes, our drainage team worked closely with our client’s architect and landscape architect to devise a coordinated SuDS/green infrastructure strategy, including attenuation basins to manage drainage and improve biodiversity.
Having been considered by the Strategic Planning Committee, the scheme is subject to a resolution to grant outline consent which is expected to be issued in due course.
