Our commission included Transport Planning and Flood Risk and Drainage support, including a Transport Assessment and Framework Travel Plan, Flood Risk Assessment, surface & foul water drainage strategies. We also undertook the preliminary highway and levels design for the internal layout.

The site posed many challenges, particularly in relation to existing surface water flooding, and the drainage strategy devised by Chris’ team included a series of mitigation measures to reduce that risk both at the site and within the downstream catchment overall. This involved careful consideration of site levels and innovative design for adoptable shallow SuDS features (s104 and s38) to provide water quality enhancement, ecological and biodiversity benefits as well as freeboard allowances to manage residual greenfield runoff and exceedance flows. The strategy also includes localised works to restore the hydraulic capacity of the highway ditch and ordinary watercourse which drain through the site to reduce the impact of existing flooding on Derritt Lane.
