AWP has supported our client LVA with the project for many years, providing advice on access and drainage matters in connection with multiple outline planning applications for which we prepared the supporting Transport Assessment and Flood Risk Assessment. Key issues on the highways side included the enhancement of conditions active travel journeys to school along Tidcombe Lane, for which we agreed strategies with the Highway Authority based on both traffic calming and the reduction in general vehicle traffic along the route. With the site being located immediately to the south of the Grand Western Canal, the drainage strategy required negotiation with officers from both the LLFA and the Grand Western Canal Country Park, with the final SuDS solution including the provision of significant areas of additional surface water storage to provide a substantial betterment in terms of reducing flood risk in the catchment, improving water quality, amenity and biodiversity.
Although agreement was reached with both the Highway and Lead Local Flood Authority, both Alex and Chris appeared at the Planning Inquiry to answer questions from local residents and the Planning Inspector about the highways and drainage strategies for the development. Following a successful outcome to the appeal, planning permission was awarded in 2025.
