Simon Baker
Senior Engineer
After returning from University I was fortunate enough to get a job at AWP in November 2013.
I was placed in the graduate rotation programme where I have been given the opportunity to work in the Flood Risk and Drainage, Infrastructure Designand Transport Planningteams. I believe that this has been an excellent opportunity to get a broad overview of all the engineering services offered at AWP. I have now settled into the Detailed Infrastructure Design team and I am working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer on the company's ICE graduate training scheme.
I grew up on a dairy farm in Devon where we also looked after pigs and peacocks. I enjoyed my time on the farm greatly but like most teenagers I wanted to get away when I finished school so I decided to study Civil Engineering at Cardiff University. I studied at Cardiff for 4 years where I achieved my BEng Hons in Civil Engineering. I believe going to Cardiff to be one of the best decisions, having made a number of very good friends and learning a lot.
I have always been a keen sportsman regularly playing and watching rugby, football, cricket and hockey. I have enjoyed playing in goal for my local and university hockey teams having captained my university team for a year. I am currently playing for and coaching my local Hockey 1st Team.
