We are an award-winning regional consultancy and always on the lookout for the right people to join our rapidly growing team.
We provide specialist development planning and infrastructure services to the property industry. Now in our 11th year of operation, our team of transport planners, civil engineers and technicians has grown to over 40 strong, and we are privileged to be working on some of the most prestigious development projects in the south-west. We have both office space at Pynes Hill in Exeter, and a hybrid working policy to provide flexibility and opportunities for remote home working.
We provide our staff with excellent opportunities to get involved in all aspects of our design work, and all of our engineers & technicians are encouraged and assisted to progress their professional qualifications through our ICE approved Training Scheme, with internal and external training opportunities being provided.
We have also developed excellent relationships with Exeter College through the AWP Academy and won a number of awards for our Apprenticeship programme. From time to time we also offer short-term work experience placements to those interested in learning more about what we do and what a career in civil engineering or transport planning could offer. You can read more about what that meant for one summer placement here.
With gold accreditation from Investors in People, we put our people at the heart of what we do and are keen to see everyone progress socially and professionally. Only 17% of organisations achieve gold accreditation and it recognises that every single person at AWP is involved in supporting each other and is doing their best to make work better.
Commenting in their accreditation report the IIP Practitioner said of AWP that, "people believe that you create an exceptional place to work. When we asked people what they would like to celebrate about AWP they emphasised the following points.
• There is a genuine desire to look after people and treat them well
• The quality of work you deliver, and the way expertise is shared by colleagues
• The welcoming atmosphere and approachability of everyone
• The way people are really trusted to make decisions in their role
• The encouragement people receive to develop their career
• The work people do is interesting, challenging and varied."
AWP is a partnership as the name suggests, and we take pride in sharing our success with everybody that has contributed towards it. That’s why everybody at AWP qualifies for our quarterly profit-related bonus scheme, and we think that’s pretty unique in our industry.
We run a series of fundraising, team-building and social events throughout the year including a summer family barbeque, pub trips, Footgolf, Clip & Climb, 10 pin bowling and kart racing. We like to celebrate our birthday each year and so far have enjoyed a weekend of outdoor activities at the Deer Park Hotel (2013), a weekend in Barcelona (2014) and a weekend on Dartmoor in order to build our team around our core values (2015). More recently we've had excellent weekend study trips to Dublin(2016), London (2017), Amsterdam (2018) and Dartmoor again (2019). We were obviously limited by options in 2020, so we went online for our birthday celebrations, when we were joined by Joe Simmonds, our sponsored Exeter Chief.
In 2021 we were reunited with an outdoor adventure day at Ashcombe adventure centre. In 2022 we celebrated our 10th Anniversary with a trip to Newquay and Joe Simmonds joined us for birthday cake in the office. In 2023 we spent the weekend in Geneva.
