Ian Awcock

Chairman

I'm a family man and naturalised Devonian having moved down here to a new job and new wife in 1987. Three children later, I most enjoy spending time with family and friends and as an Ultimate Frisbie groupie at tournaments across Great Britain and Europe.

After twenty eight years at WSP it was time for a change and AWP was born.

In my career I've been privileged to have been involved in some of the largest projects in the region, with more to come I hope. I also really enjoy nurturing young people through the business and help with that outside work as a trustee of Exeter YMCA. I'm also a member of a local in Chapel Exeter where I've been involved in youth work and running small groups over the years.

I'm passionate about getting things right, doing things the right way and enjoy contributing to the creation of great places. I've experience in all aspects of planning and feasibility analysis for a wide variety of development projects across the south west and further afield. As a Chartered Civil Engineer my skills cover all the key engineering infrastructure aspects, but I most enjoy being involved in the strategic master planning of large sites bringing together all the strands of technical advice to create a scheme of character and value.

My technical background is primarily in transport and highways including some time on site building roads and bridges, but also with significant other experience in flooding, drainage and contract management.

I enjoy acting as an expert witness with experience of over 20 public inquiries giving evidence at planning appeals and hearings on transport and infrastructure matters.
