"AWP were able to offer both a broad range of key services and a vast wealth of local knowledge to the project. The team never failed to respond quickly, but more importantly for us, in a professional and proactive manner, heading off a number of issues that may have caused delay to the project if they had not be dealt with at the very outset."

WE ARE 10 TODAY!

01/11/22

Tuesday 1st November 2022 marks AWP’s 10th anniversary. From a starting team of 7 back in 2012, over the last decade we’ve worked our way through 1468 project numbers, conducted two office moves, been accredited three times by Investors in People, established a successful apprenticeship programme, survived one global pandemic, and today we mark our 10th birthday with a team of over 40.  Ian, Pete and Alex share their reflections to accompany some photos of our journey so far….

“Where did those 10 years go?   I feel older … am definitely a bit greyer … but mostly wiser!  Back in 2012 I had one child about to go to Uni,  one doing GCSE’s and one having fun at secondary school … now I have one married and living away .. a second engaged and living away and the third about to finish final year at Uni.  I also have the benefit of an extended AWP family now around 40 people many of whom are younger than my children …  so what a journey.

From major public inquiries for major projects in Barnet to holiday lodges at Mamhead our lovely clients have provided much variety.  I’m proud of what we have been able to build, in so many ways,  and grateful for the trust placed in AWP by our clients and the trust placed in us as owners by our great team.

After 10 years Rob has moved on to new things …  it will soon be time for me to pass on the baton as well – but I can be confident that the great work we have begun will be continued to completion.

Thanks to all clients, co professionals and colleagues for making AWP a success and overall …  a fun place to be.”

“It is only when you stop and stand back you realise how far we have come in 10 years, from squatting in a corner of Ashfords office on random desks and chairs bought from auction to becoming one of the largest providers of development planning engineering services in the South West with a shiny new office in Pynes Hill with 43 staff.

From the outset our ethos has always been to look after our staff and our recent Investors in People Gold award recognises this, For me personally however the most satisfying aspect has been the growth and development of the individuals in the business. Not only are they really appreciated by our clients but they are also great people to work with.

This weekend the whole office is heading down to Nansledan in Newquay for a visit to the Duchy development which began construction 10 years ago as well. This was one of the first projects we started working on at AWP and it continues to be our largest commission. It therefore feels quite fitting to mark our special birthday with a visit to this award winning development. We will then be staying locally for our annual staff awards ceremony and of course enjoy a few beers to celebrate!!!……..here’s hoping the next 10 years are as successful as the last 10 years!”

“What a different place the world was 10 years ago…. we had the London Olympics, Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, Ukraine jointly hosting the Euro football championships and Barrack Obama was voted back into the White House for a second term. For us though 2012 will always be a special year as it was the time when the Initial Group of Seven moved into Ashford House to start a brand new journey and fresh phase in our careers. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then, and you only need to take a peek at our photos from Day 1 to see just how much has changed at AWP.

Over the years we’ve had the privilege to work on many significant, inspiring and challenging projects, both large and small, with a wide range of valued clients and co-professionals that have all helped to make us what we are today. The whole venture has also been underpinned by a supportive and talented team, pulling together to help us through the tough times and celebrate our achievements along the way. As well as all those with us today I’d also like to extend a big thank-you to former colleagues for the contribution they made during their time with us. It is the people that make AWP.

So, we look forward to our second decade and wonder what things might look like when our 20th anniversary comes around!”
