Chagford
Devon
We undertook a Flood Risk Assessment, a Foul Drainage and Utilities Strategy and provided engineering input into the masterplan developed for this scheme of 93 dwellings in Chagford. The scheme also included the relocation of the existing Chagford Fire Station. We also undertook a preliminary highway design to support the detailed planning application made by CG Fry.
One of the key constraints to the development was the minor watercourse which flows through the middle of the site. We worked closely with Devon County Council in their role as Lead Local Flood Authority to make space for this watercourse and the proposed SuDS attenuation ponds. Care was taken to integrate the watercourse into the masterplan as part of a 'blue / green corridor'. The masterplan evolved through an extensive consultation programme which included Rob and Dan attending a very well supported public consultation event. A huge amount of effort was made to provide the level of detail that enabled Dartmoor National Park Authority's Planning Committee to unanimously grant planning permission subject to S106 agreement.
We subsequently undertook the detailed infrastructure design and obtained the necessary technical approvals in advance of construction work starting on site. This development really should make a positive contribution to providing much needed housing in this beautiful Devon town.
