2023 Annual Value Awards
14/11/23
We held our annual prizegiving event to announce the winners of the AWP Value Awards.
Presented by Ian, Alex and Pete, the six Annual Value Awards were awarded to:
Trust – Jayesh Elson. For always being approachable, calm and composed despite having taken on additional responsibilities due to changes in team structures. Generated a high level of trust from colleagues and leaders within AWP, as well as from our Clients, allowing him to take on new tasks, opportunities, and responsibilities. He is a great role model to the apprentices beginning their engineering journey/careers with us, going out of his way to assist them with mentoring and supporting the links to the college.
Sharing – Ceri Middleton. He has stepped up a huge amount this year, and has not only responded exceptionally to the challenges of additional workload when the team was under strain, but also found time to share his knowledge with Olivia over the summer and to develop our Best Practice in GIS activities. He is also embedded in many other activities across the business, sharing his passion for cycling and sustainable transport with the AWP travel plan and Cycle September initiative, and by doing so helping us move forward on the sustainability agenda.
Mutually Respectful – Millie Hunt. Always willing to roll up their sleeves, have a go and deliver whatever task they have been assigned with – even if that is something they have not had to tackle before. She is always respectful, warm, and welcoming to anyone visiting the office and will always make time to assist and resolve any issues or provide support at any level within the office to the best of her ability. The list of activities she is involved with is too long to mention, but her contribution to every one of them has helped to make AWP a better place to work in some way since she started with us just over a year ago.
Value for Money – Ralph Morris. Always probes and questions effectively and not afraid to challenge and ask if things could be done better. Able and willing to share his thoughts and ideas in a helpful and constructive way with clients and colleagues alike to the benefit of the schemes he works on. On many occasions he has also provided support to other teams with C3D ground modelling, and on each occasion he has approached the task efficiently, concisely, and accurately delivering exactly what was needed with minimal input or support. He is tenacious in finding optimum solutions to engineering problems, and he regularly presents solutions which have a good balance of the pillars of sustainability.
Delivering Quality Services – Jake Richards. He always produces clear and concise drawings which have received high praise from clients and approving organisations. Recent feedback from Dorset CC & Wessex Water was that they were the best set/exemplar drawings they have ever had, resulting in very few comments through the TA process. This has been a great outcome for the client in terms of programme and cost, and for AWP in terms of our reputation for quality and repeat workload.
Informed – Craig Mason. Since joining us last year he has integrated seamlessly into both his technical team and the wider AWP business, embracing and becoming informed with all our ways of working in very short order. At the same time he has used his experience and informed us where there could be opportunities we’ve missed to improve on those ways of working (or provided re-assurance that we are very much on the right path compared with other businesses out there!). Technically, he is highly informed, has a great eye for detail and “a laser focus on delivering quality output for clients across the project delivery lifecycle.” His input to a refresh of Best Practice has also been invaluable. Craig has been leading by example when it comes to living the values of AWP, and he has also grabbed the bull by the horns with his route to professional qualification, pulling together his submission covering his entire career in a matter of months.
Congratulations to all 6 for demonstrating the AWP values so well this year. Well done to Verity Saunders and James Blyth who were highly commended on the Sharing and Informed categories.
Star of the Year - this new award was also introduced this year, which went to James Blyth. This new prize-winner was selected from AWP’s monthly Star Award recognition scheme, where nominations are invited from everybody across the business to recognise where colleagues have gone above and beyond the call of duty and really demonstrated the AWP Values. James was recognised for his consistent contribution and participation in weekly Friday Morning Meetings, recognising his peers and implementing training across the business. Congratulations!
We also awarded Simon Baker with his Long Service Award in recognition of his hard work and dedication to AWP over the last 10 years. Thank you and congrats to Simon!
