Poundbury
Dorset
We have worked on Poundbury since the inception of AWP. Pete and Dan lead our input on this project and have built excellent working relationships with the consortium of housebuilders (CG Fry, Morrish Homes and Zero C) and the landowner, the Duchy of Cornwall.
Over the last few years we have undertaken the design of the highways, drainage and utilities to serve future development parcels and obtained the necessary legal adoption agreements for the consortium of regional housebuilders building this urban extension to Dorchester. Coordination between different designers and developers and reaching consensus on infrastructure provision as parcel layouts evolve has been a key part of this role.
The development incorporates the latest thinking in terms of place making with the built form and urban design dictating the highway layout. High quality finishes requiring non-standard adoption agreements are used throughout.
The first image above shows Queen Mother Square which is the centrepiece of the town and features a shared space flanked on all four sides by prestige buildings housing various mixed uses. The statue of HRH The Queen Mother was formally unveiled by HM The Queen in November 2016.
