"This is such a lovely generous gesture - the impact it has (winter approaching) is significant. And AWP will be visible in the Everest valley for years and years!!!"

Latest updates on Poundbury

18/12/20

As Poundbury continues to grow we have been looking back over the previous phases, the North East Quadrant and Northern Quadrant, with Masterplanning Architect Leon Krier. At the end of 2019 Leon enlisted our highways support to assist in a review of the key public realm areas and prominent pedestrian zones. His main aim was to enhance each area to encourage further sustainable travel and create attractive places throughout Poundbury for the community to enjoy.

Leon’s illustrations and thoughts on the highway designs presented some interesting engineering and highway adoption challenges to overcome. Despite this we worked closely with Leon, the Duchy of Cornwall and Dorset Highways to engineer bespoke solutions to bring his vision to life in a cost-effective manner and successfully gained planning approval at the start of December 2020. With Dorset Highways already giving approval in principle for the detailed input, we are looking forward providing our support as these areas get developed.

Whilst we have been looking back over the previous phases we have also been moving forward with our support on the final Poundbury phase, the North West Quadrant, consisting of approximately 200 homes. We provided up-front highways, drainage and utilities advice as well as street lighting and landscaping co-ordination to shape the masterplan ahead of the detailed planning application. We worked closely with the architectural team, Leon Krier, Ben Pentreath and George Saumarez Smith to weave our engineering solutions into great place making.

Overall its been another great year assisting the Duchy of Cornwall, the design team and the house-building consortium to deliver this pioneering development.
