We were delighted to see Seaton Beach win the Residential Project of the Year (35 units and under) at last night's Michelmores Property Awards.
We helped secure planning permission for the development by undertaking a Flood Risk Assessment for the block of new seafront apartments in Seaton, East Devon.
The site, and all of the surrounding area, is located in the high risk flood zone. Therefore, as part of our FRA, we assessed the impact of the 1 in 200 year return period wave overtopping the existing coastal flood defence for the 100 year design life of the residential apartments. The predicted impact of climate change along the Devon coast over the next 100 years has sea levels rising by over 1.1m. As a result, many existing flood defences will no longer provide adequate protection.
We were able to demonstrate to the Environment Agency, and ultimately East Devon District Council as the local planning authority, that the development will be safe from flooding throughout its design life and will improve the position from the current scenario.
