2023 Q4 Charity Donations

14/12/23

As part of AWP's quarterly giving scheme, Rodin's team have chosen to support four charities relevant to various team members - St Luke's Hospice (Cheshire), DPJ Foundation, YMCA Exeter and Exeter Waymakers.

St Luke’s Hospice (Cheshire)

St Luke’s Hospice (Cheshire) is the local community branch of St Luke’s Hospice, a charity which has been providing palliative (end of life) care across the UK since the mid 1980s. The care provided by St. Luke’s Hospice in Cheshire is 85% funded by donations from its local community, and thanks to these funds, they continue to offer their amazing support to patients and families beyond the available scope and funding of the NHS services.

The staff at St. Luke’s Hospice (Cheshire) recently provided excellent palliative care for one of our colleague’s family members, and for this reason AWP has decided to support them this quarter by donating funds raised via a Halloween Charity Cake Sale, as well as through the Q4 charity nominations selected by Rodin’s Team this year.

DPJ Foundation

The DPJ Foundation was set up in Pembrokeshire in July 2016 following the death of Daniel Picton-Jones. Daniel’s suicide rocked the community, and his wife Emma realised very quickly the lack of support that was available for those suffering with poor mental health in rural communities. The charity has three main strands which are support, where they aim to share the load through counselling, raising awareness through various platforms such as social media and training to others so they can further help people in need. According to Sky News  88% of farmers under the age of 40 rank poor mental health as the biggest hidden problem facing farmers today (increased from 82% in 2018) and in 2020, there were 133 suicides within the agricultural sector.

YMCA Exeter

YMCA Exeter - The YMCA is an international charity primarily aimed at helping young people in need with finding accommodation and other financial and mental health support. Over the last ten years, YMCA Exeter has assisted over 400 young people to successfully move through up to four stages of supported accommodation and into independent living. They have also helped to provide them with mental health intervention and community support initiatives. With Devon County Council recently axing funding for homeless people, there is a high need for charities like the YMCA, especially at this time of year.

Exeter Waymakers

Exeter Waymakers is a local community sponsorship group working to welcome refugee families fleeing from conflict to a home in Exeter. Their aim is to provide emotional and practical support to enable the family to rebuild their lives and become self sufficient members of their new community. The group is affiliated to the registered charity Caritas.
