Planning application submitted for large urban regeneration scheme in Bristol

12/08/19

Working with our long-standing client, Square Bay, we were appointed to support a hybrid planning application for the Silverthorne Lane development site within the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone in Bristol. The redevelopment included around 370 apartments, office space, new accommodation of the University of Bristol, a much needed 1600 place secondary school and an 840 bed student accommodation scheme.

Our work on this large urban regeneration project centred on the overarching access strategy for the scheme, which included the redesign of the eastern section of Silverthorne Lane to provide a pedestrian priority street. As well as providing a significant improvement to the current fabric and experience of pedestrians and cyclists using the street to access the new development, the proposals will greatly improve connectivity for active travel users between the city centre and residential areas to the east of the adjacent railway line. We also provided advice on the design of the public realm within the development itself, and we prepared the Transport Assessment and Framework Travel Plan that supported the planning application for the overall scheme.

The planning application has now been submitted to Bristol City Council, and we look forward to working with the project team to help deliver this complex city centre regeneration scheme in the months to come.
