Planning permission for new cricket ground

18/02/20

We were appointed by the Environment Agency to undertake a Flood Risk Assessment to support a detailed planning application for a new ground for Budleigh Salterton CC. The existing ground is located on the floodplain of the River Otter and has flooded regularly over the years.

With the frequency and extent of flooding increasing as a result of climate change, the EA were keen to work with landowner Clinton Devon Estates and the cricket club to relocate the ground and restore land around the mouth of the river to a more natural, wetland environment as part of the Lower Otter Restoration Project.

The new cricket ground will be located to the north of the town and will provide substantial improvements over the existing facilities, meeting the requirements of both the ECB and Sport England. The new facilities include a main cricket square, junior pitch, single-storey timber-clad pavilion and equipment store.

East Devon District Council granted planning permission in February 2020.
