Clawford Lakes

Holsworthy, Devon

AWP were appointed by Lakeshore Leisure Ltd to provide Transport and Highways support for a development of 140 luxury holiday lodges, 29 camping pods and 9 ‘floating lodges’, along with an eco swimming pool and ancillary facilities on land at Clawford Vineyards near Holsworthy, Devon.

The site formerly operated as a fishery and small holiday/leisure complex, and the client wished to develop the site further to provide an eco-friendly holiday resort in a remote and peaceful part of Devon. Working closely with Trewin Architects, we assisted in shaping the overall masterplan for the site, as well as undertaking preliminary design for the access arrangements and the Transport Assessment that supported the planning application. Working closely with Devon County Council highways officers, we secured agreement for the overarching access strategy for the scheme, including improvements to a number of existing passing places and the provision of several new passing places to facilitate vehicle movements along the rural network serving the site.

We also prepared the Framework Travel Plan to promote the take up of sustainable transport opportunities, tailored to the site’s rural setting. Torridge District Council granted planning consent in April 2021.

Daisy Atkin led the transport work and as a keen wild swimmer she’s looking forward to testing out the eco-pool!
