Hedge End
Hampshire
We were brought in by Southcott Homes to help them solve a flood risk problem on a site in Hedge End, Hampshire.
The proposed scheme was to demolish a redundant commercial building and build a small residential development which had the benefit of an earlier planning approval for a similar scheme.
The previous consultants had prepared a Flood Risk Assessment but the Environment Agency were maintaining an objection on loss of floodplain storage. We prepared a digital terrain model from the 3D survey which showed that in addition to the proposed development being safe for its design life, it would offer an increase of potential floodplain storage and thereby decrease the flood risk to neighbouring properties.
We worked closely with the EA officers to prepare an Addendum FRA and undertook 3D modelling work to clearly show to the EA and LPA the increase in flood storage offered by the proposed scheme. This enabled the EA to remove their objection and Eastleigh Borough Council to grant planning approval.
It's good to see that the scheme has now been completed.
