"We like working with the AWP team as they are experienced, flexible, commercially astute, technically savvy, but above all they get the job done."

Paternoster House

Exeter

AWP were commissioned by Grenadier Estates in 2023 to provide Transport Planning support for the redevelopment of Paternoster House in Exeter. Located close to Exeter Cathedral, Paternoster House is a prestigious building in the heart of the city. It was originally built inthe1880s as Exeter’s first department store, being initially occupied by Brock’s furniture.

After being largely empty since 2017, Grenadier Estates purchased the prominent building with a plan to transform it into 28 residential flats. Sustainability was at the core of the development proposals, which included using renewable energy (including solar panels on the roof) and using sustainable materials for construction.

AWP prepared a Transport Statement for the planning application, which includedan assessment ofthehighly sustainable location of the site. There are excellent public transport services located within a minutes’ walk of the building, as well as numerous walking and cycling routes within the city. This enabled the site to be a car-free development, and instead a high level of cycle parkingis to be providedtoencourage the take up of active travel modes.

We are delighted to hear that planning permission has been granted by Exeter City Council (July 2023). It was an exciting project to be involved with, and we look forward to seeingconstruction works atPaternoster Housecommencingover the coming months!
