Fordington
Dorchester
We were appointed by the Duchy of Cornwall to provide engineering input to support a detailed planning application for 100 new houses on land at Fordington, on the eastern edge of Dorchester.
Working closely with project architects Yiangou, we provided engineering input to the developing masterplan for the 100 houses over four adjoining sites which are divided by the A35 and the main rail line to Weymouth. With these constraints each site required its own access and drainage solutions. We prepared a Transport Statement, Flood Risk Assessment and calculated proposed road and slab levels to enable the planning application to be made.
As can be seen in the sketch above, Yiangou developed their designs inspired by Edwardian 'Arts and Craft' architecture, examples of which are found in the surrounding Manor of Fordington. We attended a public consultation event early in 2017 and explained the engineering constraints posed by this challenging site. We also discussed the proposed creation of an additional wetland habitat for wildlife beside the River Frome adjacent to the site with local residents.
